New York values: Hillary Clinton took 5 painful swipes to enter the subway

Anyone who has gone for a wild ride on the New York City subway will understand that entering the subway can be an extremely frustrating experience. Hillary Clinton is no exception. 

Although Bernie Sanders believes that New Yorkers still pay with subway tokens, we use another piece of outdated technology. In order to pay for the subway you need to swipe a MetroCard through a machine, sort of like a credit card. Unfortunately this system is terribly outdated, the machines break frequently and even the seasoned New Yorker will sometimes have to swipe multiple times before gaining access to the subway.

So when Hillary Clinton decided to show New York that she's one of us normals on Thursday morning by taking the subway to the Bronx, it took her five whole swipes. 

After riding the subway a few times you start to get the hang of swiping in. It's a swift movement that requires a small amount of skill. Swiping too slow will reject payment, and occasionally the machines simply don't work. 

Now the MTA does have plans to fix this outdated technology, but Gothamist reports that it won't go into effect until 2022. So for now Hillary and the rest of us can do what we normally do: tweet aggressively at Mayor Bill de Blasio, tagging @MTA, or jump the fare and hope no cops are on the other side of the turnstile.
