The shooting that killed 10 at a school in Santa Fe, Tex. on Friday has once again brought up America's need for gun control and growing desensitization to mass shootings, and Houston chief of police Art Acevedo is done with it.

In a public Facebook post, Acevedo said he has "hit rock bottom" on gun control, and has nothing to say to elected officials "who will once again do absolutely nothing."

"The hatred being spewed in our country and the new norms we, so-called people of faith are accepting, is as much to blame for so much of the violence in our once pragmatic nation," Acevedo wrote on Friday night.

The post has been shared over 27,000 times, and Acevedo told the New York Times that he has received positive feedback from many who feel the same.

"This isn’t a time for prayers, and study and Inaction, it’s a time for prayers, action and the asking of God’s forgiveness for our inaction," the post reads. He may not be an elected official, but Acevedo is a public figure in his community whose words have clearly resonated with many.
