iOS 10 is officially out of public beta and now available for download and you're going to want it, specifically for all the awesome new messaging features.

The easiest way to update your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iOS 10 is to go to Settings > General > Software Update and download it over-the-air (OTA).

If you go this route, you will need to connect to a Wi-Fi network as the update is too large to download over a cellular connection (even if you do have enough data).

Alternatively, you can also connect your supported iOS device to your PC or Mac and update through iTunes. iOS 10 is compatible with the following devices:

  • iPhone: iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus

  • iPad: iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, iPad Pro 9.7, iPad Pro 12.9

  • iPod touch: iPod touch (sixth-generation)

As always, we recommend backing up your data with iCloud or to a computer via iTunes beforehand, to prevent any accidental data loss during the update process.

Using Google Photos is also a great way to keep a backup of all your photos and videos.

It's best to make sure you have enough storage space to download the update; the update file size varies for depending on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and ranges from 1.1GB to 2.64GB. If you're low on storage, now's a good time to look through all of your apps and delete the ones you don't use or use very infrequently; start with games and videos as these usually take up the most space.

And finally, if you don't see the update or it's taking forever, you may want to wait until later in the day to try again when Apple's servers aren't being hit hard by everybody trying to download at the same time.
