A human chain formed across the Golden State Bridge in San Francisco Friday in just one of the many powerful displays of resistance to Donald Trump's inauguration.

While other protests took hold around the world, San Francisco's bridge protest stood out for the incredible image it gave to the rest of the nation.

Thousands of people locked hands and stood in unity for the two-hour event -- a demonstration that was organized by a local group Bridge Together Golden Gate, according to ABC 7 News.

Around 2,200 people stood together as parts of the chain, the Marin County Sheriff tweeted, showing their objection to the new U.S. president just as he was officially being sworn into office.

On its website, the group behind the Golden Gate Bridge protest explained how its unique demonstration would send a message to the new presidential administration.

"Wearing purple, we will form the first human chain across the entire Golden Gate Bridge (and beyond), as a collaborative, grassroots, community-based demonstration and performance art piece," the group states. "We will prove that #LoveTrumpsHate and we are #StrongerTogether."

Local authorities said the demonstration was peaceful, with no apparent arrests being made of any of the over 2,000 people who took part.

Some demonstrations in the city blocked entrances to transit stations, leading to the arrest of 11 people, according to the San Francisco Examiner. Around San Francisco, streets were closed and building entrances blocked as protests swarmed the streets.

From Los Angeles to London, protestors around the world have showed their opposition to the transition of power from Barack Obama to the Manhattan businessman and former reality star through powerful acts of activism -- from marching the streets to taking over more bridges.
