Don't freak out just yet, Sir Ian McKellen's bromance with Sir Patrick Stewart is far from over.

It looks like McKellen was just having a spot of fun when he cheekily posed for a picture holding a sign advertising his personal details and credentials, when he dropped by Shanghai's People's Square infamous Marriage Market on Saturday.

The People's Square Marriage Market is a popular matchmaking spot where Chinese parents gather at the park on weekends hoping to look for spouses for their single children.

The location was also the spotlight for Japanese cosmetic brand, SK-II's "Marriage Market Takeover" video about China's "leftover women" which went viral back in April.

While there, McKellen was also photographed holding a placard with a line from Shakespeare's reading: "Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind."

The celebrated actor is in China now for the Shanghai International Film Festival and is currently exploring the country with British Council China to promote the cultural organisation's "Shakespeare Lives" programmes.
