Tax season has finally brought in the ultimate expert: Watson.

IBM's supercomputer, which has already applied its endless knowledge to curing cancer, researching ALS and writing songs, will use its talents to process huge amounts of information to do taxes through H&R Block this year.

"Tax preparation is a perfect use for Watson. Just like Watson is already revolutionizing other industries like healthcare and education, here H&R Block with Watson is learning to process incredible amounts of information, helping create tailored solutions for H&R Block's customers," David Kenny, IBM's senior vice president for IBM Watson and cloud platform, said in a video announcing the partnership.

Watson will read the 74,000 pages of federal tax code and process the thousands of yearly changes to tax law to help tax preparers get clients their best result. Watson will use all this information to draw connections between clients' statements and the relevant areas of their tax returns.

Human tax professionals will still be involved to finish filing and find any deductions Watson might have missed.

Watson will learn more about taxes as it processes more and more returns this year and in future tax seasons. H&R Block will also continue to use Watson in other areas of its business.

“By combining the human expertise, knowledge and judgment of our tax professionals with the cutting-edge cognitive computing power of Watson, we are creating a future where our clients will benefit from an enhanced experience and our tax pros will have the latest technology to help them ensure every deduction and credit is found," H&R Block CEO Bill Cobb said in a statement. "This partnership with Watson means we can leverage the best technology available to help our clients get their taxes won.”

IBM and H&R Block will advertise their increased tax expertise during the Super Bowl on Sunday.
