We just got more proof that Instagram is an essential social media tool, even for the world's richest tech company, as Apple's iBooks finally launched its account on the service on Saturday.

Starting with an animation of the cover of Emma Cline's widely praised debut novel The Girls, the post includes a blurb about the book's "terrifying events that forever change protagonist Evie Boyd, a disaffected teenager drawn into a Mason Family-like cult."

That's pretty much how the account is used over the course of 15 posts, with personal message-style promotions of books available on iBooks mixed with still images, notes and animations.

The account appears to be curated by a team of users located in spots like Chicago, Indiana and even London, where one poster offered a mini review of the stage version of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, before promoting the book.

The only place a link to the iBooks store appears is in profile section of the iBooks account, which, as of this writing, sends visitors to Harry Potter And The Cursed Child.

That link is timed perfectly since Sunday is Rowling's birthday, a fact the iBooks Instagram account also celebrates with a special animated shout out.
