Monica Lewinsky to produce 'American Crime Story' season on Clinton impeachment
American Crime Story returns in 2020 — with Monica Lewinsky as its producer.
On Tuesday, FX Networks confirmed the next installment of its Emmy Award-winning anthology true crime series. Titled Impeachment: American Crime Story, the series' third season will tackle the 1998 impeachment of former President Bill Clinton, and premiere on Sept. 28 at 10 p.m. ET.
Lewinsky, a controversial figure at the center of the political scandal, will produce the series alongside executive producers Sarah Burgess, Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Sarah Paulson — as well as fellow producers Henrietta Conrad and Jemima Kahn.
The series, set to begin production in February, will star Booksmart's Beanie Feldstein as Lewinsky.
Paulson, known for playing prosecutor Marcia Clark in The People v. O.J. Simpson, and Annaleigh Ashford, who played Andrew Cunanan's close friend Elizabeth Cote in The Assassination of Gianni Versace, will portray Linda Tripp and Paula Jones respectively.
“FX’s American Crime Story franchise has become a cultural touchstone, providing greater context for stories that deserve greater understanding like the O.J. Simpson trial and saga, and Andrew Cunanan’s tragic crime spree which concluded with the assassination of Gianni Versace,” said FX Productions and Networks chairman John Landgraf.
“This franchise re-examines some of the most complicated, polarizing stories in recent history in a way that is relevant, nuanced and entertaining. Impeachment: American Crime Story will likewise explore the overlooked dimensions of the women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that cast a long shadow over the Clinton Presidency."
No word yet on who will be cast to play the Clintons or any of the other central roles in the historic event.
