'Moonlight,' 'American Honey' lead Independent Spirit nominations
LOS ANGELES -- Moonlight and American Honey dominated the Independent Spirit Awards nominations with six apiece, Film Independent announced Tuesday.
Both films were nominated in the Best Feature category alongside Chronic, Jackie and Manchester by the Sea.
Manchester, the Sundance breakout by writer/director Kenneth Lonergan, was nominated for five Indie Spirit Awards including editing, male lead (Casey Affleck), screenplay and male supporting (Lucas Hedges) -- but, puzzlingly, no directing award for Lonergan himself.

Film Independent limits its eligible films by budget, and is believed to cap nominees around $20 million -- meaning several Oscar contenders like La La Land, though produced outside the major studio system, are not eligible.
