Indians ought to be more careful while taking selfies.

India has topped the chart once again for "killfies", otherwise known as deaths that have occurred while taking a selfie. More than half of all incidents in the world where people have died while taking selfies have occurred in India.

About 127 people have died worldwide while trying to take selfies in the past two-and-a-half years, according to a study by scholars from Carnegie Mellon University.

India alone has accounted for 76 of such deaths. Nine people have lost their lives taking selfies in Pakistan, eight in the United States, and six in Russia. India claimed the dubious record last year as well.

It’s not entirely clear exactly why so many people died in India taking selfies, but the study adds that the vast majority of such deaths (87 percent) were water-related casualties.

The Indian government is aware of people going to great lengths to click a good selfie. Earlier this year, Mumbai police marked 16 spots as "no-selfie" zones after the death of two youngsters.
