Tributes flow online for Miss World 2016 finalist, dead at 17
High school student and Miss World 2016 finalist, Elyse Miller-Kennedy, has died at 17, after a head-on car crash left her in critical condition on Aug. 3.
The North Queensland resident was beloved in the small Dimbulah community of Queensland, Australia and was held up as a role model for Indigenous young women after only recently competing in the Miss World Australia pageant alongside other young finalists, including Yolngu woman, Magnolia Maymuru.
Since the crash, which was caused by a car colliding with Elyse after driving on the wrong side of the road according to NITV, a family friend has been fundraising for the teen and her family, with financial support and goodwill flowing in from around the world.

Called “the sweetheart of Far North Queensland,” the model was known for her “caring nature, love of her family and incredible natural inner and outer beauty,” said her friend Katrina Porter in a statement.

“We would like everyone to remember Elyse's inner beauty, the warmth she showed to all, her humbleness during her journey throughout her larger than life experiences and of course the generous sweet soul and friend she was to so many,” she said.
