LONDON -- The censorship of images on Instagram has been a thorny issue for some time -- but you'd normally assume you were on pretty safe ground when sharing pictures of baked goods.

After British Mum Sue Moseley shared a photo of the simnel cake her daughter had baked for her on the platform, she was in for a surprise the next time she tried to log in.

Mashable spoke to Sue's daughter Fiona, who told us the whole thing started when her sister Jenny baked their mum a traditional Simnel cake for at Easter.

"My Mum was really proud of the cake, so shared a photo of it on her Instagram with, ‘Jenny’s fabulous Easter Simnel cake -- delicious’," explained Fiona.

"The next time she tried opening up Instagram on her phone she received an Error notification that said her account had been disabled for violating their terms."

"She followed their procedure of appealing the decision, letting them know they’d obviously made a mistake," said Fiona. "They sent this email back:

Your account has been disabled for not following the Instagram Community Guidelines, and we won't be able to reactivate it. We disable accounts that post content that is sexually suggestive or contains nudity.

We understand that people have different ideas about what’s okay to share on Instagram, but to keep Instagram safe, we require everyone to follow our guidelines.

"I can only assume they’ve got some kind of recognition software that flags anything that looks remotely like a naked body part," Fiona continued.

"My Mum was really sad about it as she has lost all her Instagram photos and her account. She’s the loveliest person and only posts photos of her family, holidays and food and for that they’ve suspended her.

"I’m on a mission to get her account back. So far, I’ve not had any reply from Instagram."

Mashable reached out to Instagram, and a spokesperson confirmed that an internal team is currently investigating the issue and that they'll be in touch when they have more information.

UPDATED 5 APRIL 2016 2.25PM GMT: Fiona has contacted Mashable to confirm that her mum's Instagram account has just been reactivated.

A spokesperson from Instagram sent the following statement to Mashable:

"We made a mistake here and restored the account as soon as we learned about it. Our apologies go out to Sue Moseley for the trouble we caused her."
