You’ll soon be able to slide into someone’s Instagram DMs right from your desktop.

As of Tuesday, Instagram began rolling out direct messages on the web for a small percentage of users, according to The Verge. The rollout is part of a test, Instagram says, and information regarding a broader rollout will come at a later date.

Direct messaging on Instagram’s website will work the same it does through its mobile app. Users will be able to partake in group DMs as well. Direct messaging can be initiated from a user’s profile page or from the dedicated DM page, just as users would on the app. Desktop notifications are also available for DMs if a user enables notifications for Instagram on their web browser.

Software engineer Jane Manchun Wong, who has perfected the art of reverse-engineering apps in order to uncover upcoming features, originally reported that Instagram was internally testing DMs on the web almost a year ago.

For a while, the only thing you could do on Instagram outside of the app was view a photo. Over the years, Instagram has changed that by rolling out more features.

Facebook, Instagram’s parent company, has been looking to integrate messaging from its various services: Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Bringing Instagram DMs to the web seems like another push in that direction.
