Intel meeting with Trump turned into a really awkward infomercial

Even in the Oval Office, Trump can't shed his "Apprentice" past.

Chip tech giant Intel held a press conference with Donald Trump Wednesday, but instead of just the usual photo op and quick announcement about jobs and innovation, this meeting awkwardly veered into infomercial territory.

It started typically enough with the company's CEO Brian Krzanich announcing a major push for U.S.-based jobs with a $7 billion investment in an Arizona factory. But then Trump pressured him into showing off and talking up the company's newest technology.

With the news of some 3,000 high tech jobs and thousands of other support jobs out of the way, things could then shift into full-on infomercial. Pushed by Trump, who thickly doled out the praise for Intel, Krzanich ended up on camera holding up his shiny gold wafer, or silicon chip.

People on Twitter quickly picked up on the infomercial vibe in the White House.

In true Trump fashion, he rounded out the business meeting-turned-marketing opportunity with a tweet.

Oddly enough, Intel was one of the 100 or so companies who filed a brief opposing the president's travel restrictions for immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries.
