Apple is finally making it easier to type on the go.

The tech company introduced its new iOS, iOS 11, at its annual Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday, and the new update comes packed with upgrades that'll make it even better to use your iPhone and iPad.

In addition to adding numerous new tools to iOS (including person-to-person payments in iMessage), Apple also announced a much awaited feature: a one-handed keyboard mode on iPhone.

The special keyboard is similar to other one-handed typing features — when enabled, it compresses the keyboard to one side of your screen so that you can better type while you are pre-occupied. The new one-handed keyboard mode can be activated by holding down the emoji key.

The one-handed keyboard was previously spotted last fall as a secret, disabled keyboard hiding in your phone since iOS 8. But now, with iOS 11, Apple has finally made its one-handed typing readily available.

The company also announced a new QuickType keyboard on iPad that gives quick access to numbers, symbols, and punctuation.

As iPhones continue to get larger, especially for the Plus models, a one-handed keyboard is a small touch that can go a long way in improving the experience of using the phone. iOS 11 is now available for developers and the beta version will be open to the public later this month. The update will later come as a free software update for iPhone 5S and all subsequent models, this fall.
