Your next iPhone may not come with earbuds or a charger

Got any spares lying around?

You might have to spend a little bit more than usual for the iPhone 12.

Analysts at the British bank Barclays are predicting that when the Apple iPhone 12 is released later this year, Apple will not include many of the now-customary in-box accessories — namely, a pair of earbuds and a power adapter.

So, what does this mean? If Barclays analysts are correct, a brand new iPhone 12 will only come with a USB-C to Lightning cable in the box.

If you’ve been a longtime iPhone user, you probably have a spare power adapter somewhere in your home. If not, you’d need to fork out at least an extra $19 to $29 bucks on top of the cost of the iPhone 12. That’s the current price for an iPhone power adapter from Apple, depending on your model of phone.

The lack of earbuds is likely Apple’s push to continue to promote its popular AirPods, which start at $159. However, Apple does sell its wired earbuds for $29, which again would be another cost on top of the base price of the iPhone 12. Rumors currently price the next line of iPhones at between $649 to $1,099 for the 128GB version depending on the model.

The report is based on Barclays analysts' talks with Apple suppliers. The research memo, which was obtained by MacRumors, has some other notable information about the iPhone 12 and other future Apple products.

The analysts also said that production of the next line of iPhones is about 4 to 6 weeks behind where it’s expected to be at this time of the year. However, they don’t believe Apple will delay its keynote event announcing the new products. Instead, consumers will likely see a rolling release schedule for each model, similar to how the iPhone X and iPhone XR were sold in 2018.

Two of the more pricey iPhone 12 models will feature a triple-lens camera system with a LiDAR Scanner, similar to what the iPad Pro has. A new iPad Pro release and the newest addition to the AirPods line is also expected by sometime early next year.
