A Hackintosh is what you get when you "hack" a non-Mac computer to run Mac OS X. It's not too difficult to figure out if you want to do it yourself, but if you want to run Android on your iPhone, you'll need to do more than install some software.

The accomplishment of mashing together the two smartphone rivals was achieved by Tendigi CTO Nick Lee, who created a custom app and case to run Android Marshmallow on an iPhone 6 Plus

Thanks to the open-source nature of Android, Lee was able to get a HiKey LeMaker Android development board and modify it to run Android through a USB/lightning port connection.

From there, he hooked up the board to a battery powerful enough to power both the Android board and the iPhone, and put the setup in a 3D-printed case.

Instead of actually running Android on the iPhone, the iPhone is effectively being used as a surrogate display for the Android board. It runs through an app, and while it isn't the smoothest version of Android and doesn't quite fit the screen size, it looks like it works pretty well in action.

To switch back to iOS all you have to do is press the home button, which is pretty convenient.

This isn't Tendigi's first attempt to put an OS where it doesn't belong. In April, Lee managed to get an Apple Watch to run a miniature version of Windows 95, which shows just how little resources older computers required to run 20 years ago.

While the iPhone/Android case and app combo make for a pretty cool mashup, they are not currently for sale, although someone with a lot of knowledge in the area can check out Lee's blog post and work it out on their own.

For the rest of us though, we'll just have to choose between the two smartphone OS giants.
