With the iPhone X, Apple is charting new territory, and we're not only talking about the phone's looks and lack of buttons.

When you open it up, as the folks from iFixit have (already!) done, the iPhone X is very, very different from any previous iPhone.

Being a much smaller device than the iPhone 8 Plus, but packing a screen of roughly the same size, and nearly identical specs, the iPhone X's components are packed incredibly densely. For the first time, Apple has divided the battery in two separate parts -- yes, the iPhone X technically has two batteries. Also, the phone's logic board is folded in half to save space (interestingly, Apple had used a similar technique on the original iPhone).

And of course, the all-new TrueDepth camera system that makes sure your mug unlocks the phone is also here.

Oddly, despite the myriad of chips, cameras and other components stuffed into the 5.8-inch iPhone X, Apple's brave new flagship isn't much harder to repair than, say, an iPhone 8. That still doesn't mean you should ever open it to repair it yourself, but it's a comfort to know that there might be an expert out there who might be able to pull it off without destroying the phone.
