94-year-old fashion icon Iris stars in campaign for Australian fashion brand

She is the world's most fashionable 94-year-old woman, and now she is the face of a new Australian campaign.

She is the world's most fashionable 94-year-old woman, and now she is the face of a new Australian campaign.

Iris Apfel has been chosen to be the stylish ambassador for Australian fashion brand, Blue Illusion. In a series of three videos, Iris speaks on accessories, denim and ageless style. It's a coup for the brand, as Iris has accumulated a huge following of dedicated fans over the last decade.

The creative genius, who has had successful careers as an interior designer and businesswoman, became a fashion icon after an exhibition of her eccentric costume jewellery at The Costume Institute in 2005. Following this, a documentary titled Iris premiered at the New York Film Festival in 2014, which cemented her status as a cult icon.

Iris is featured in Blue Illusion's Autumn-Winter campaign for 2016, titled "Ageless." It will be rolled out online and in an outdoor campaign. 

Some words of gold from the icon herself on what defines style: "Fashion you must buy, but style you possess. It is hard to define but I don't think style has any age, it is a matter of attitude," Iris said in the campaign. "Who you are and how you look at things, and how you put them all together and transform them. You can have the most beautiful clothes in the world, but you have no style, it is just stuff."

Blue Illusion's co-founder Donna Guest it's this effortless chic that makes Iris a perfect fit for the brand. 

"She’s eye catching. So for me, Iris is Blue Illusion. She’s a woman with a sense of self and holds no apologies only ‘oops’ at least I tried," Guest told Mashable in an email. "There is a certain strength to her that I admire, from her interior design career and family life to building this elegantly powerful public voice at age 94! There’s no doubt in mind Iris is chic."

As a mature style icon, Guest believes Iris allows people to feel comfortable in themselves, showing that style doesn't end with youth. 

"Iris makes it okay and a non-issue to embrace your age. I think she allows older women to feel good about themselves, to know that you can feel and look good as you age," Guest said. "There’s no better time to start or stop."

Blue Illusion has 127 stores which have French-inspired fashion and homewares across Australia, New Zealand and North America. Iris donning the Blue Illusion fashion will no doubt get even more people familiar with the brand.
