Smart teenagers were maligned in the '80s and '90s, but they've made a comeback.

Meet Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna, valedictorian of Elmont Memorial High School in Elmont, New York. Uwamanzu-Nna was recently accepted to not one but all eight Ivy League schools. She was also accepted to four highly competitive non-Ivies. While all options look promising, she has yet to make a decision.

"My recent accomplishments reflect the hardworking ideals of the town of Elmont, my supportive parents and my dedicated teacher," Uwamanzu-Nna recently said in a press release.

Uwamanzu-Nna says she got her work ethic from her parents, both of whom came from Nigeria. Though she herself was born in the United States, she says she appreciates the opportunities this country has afforded her. Uwamanzu-Nna wants to one day give back to her home country.

"I visited Nigeria many times. And I’ve seen that my cousins don’t have the same opportunities that I have. So definitely, whatever I do, I want to make sure that it has an impact on Nigeria," she told WABC.

The student hopes to study environmental science and biochemistry. In 2016, she was a finalist in the Intel Science Talent Search. Her project explored how cement could prevent underwater oil rigs from rupturing.

A former Elmont High School student, Harold Ekelh, had also been accepted to all eight Ivy leagues. Sounds like this high school keeps producing kid geniuses, NBD.

Even though Uwamanzu-Nna has struggled with "numerous classes in the past," she credits her tenacity and work ethic for pulling her through.

Seems like her method worked. Shout out to Uwamanzu-Nna for magically making teenagers seem cool again.
