LONDON -- Question: What's more awkward for a celebrity than being recognised in a public place?

Answer: Being almost recognised. At least judging by the stories below.

On Sunday, J.K. Rowling shared a brilliantly awkward anecdote about a time she was nearly recognised by a drunk man in a bar -- and in doing so, she kick-started a brief thread of celebrities sharing their own, similarly cringy stories.

It all started when a student tweeted at Rowling to say she looks like Celine Dion.

Turns out he wasn't the first person to make the comparison, either.

Then, a man named Darren Whitfield tweeted this follow-up question.

Rowling's response has since been shared over 11,000 times:

The Harry Potter author's story prompted some responses from celebrities who'd had similarly awkward encounters.

Finally, to round the whole thing off, Rowling did what Rowling on Twitter does best: she calmly shut down a troll.
