If you've been anywhere near Twitter in the past 24 hours, you've likely heard about J.K. Rowling's latest Fantastic Beasts comments -- the ones where she described, in a DVD feature for The Crimes of Grindelwald, the "incredibly intense" "love" relationship Dumbledore shared with his rival.

Chances are you've read some of the backlash, too.

In the hours since the interview gained traction, there were a number of tweets about Rowling's remarks that went viral. And quite a few of them highlighted the difference between the Harry Potter author's words and what is featured in the Fantastic Beasts movies themselves.

Dumbledore, played by Jude Law, featured in the second instalment in the five-part Fantastic Beasts franchise. But the news that his character's sexuality would "not explicitly" be referenced in the movie began a wave of backlash that seems to have gained fresh momentum in recent months.

There's already been a meme reacting to Rowling's additions to the Harry Potter franchise, and this latest interview has resulted in more frustration from fans.

J.K. Rowling took to Twitter to defend herself last year after the news of Dumbledore's treatment in the second movie broke, emphasising that the film "is part of a five-movie series that's only one instalment in."

At the time of writing she hasn't yet responded to the latest flurry of tweets. Mashable has reached out to her representatives for comment and will update this article if we receive a response.

UPDATE: March 18, 2019, 12:04 p.m. GMT A representative of J.K. Rowling confirmed to Mashable that she isn't commenting on this.
