Just days before the Los Angeles Auto Show, Jaguar got a jump on the competition by launching its latest concept vehicle in the showroom of the future: virtual reality.

On Sunday, Jaguar's electric I-PACE concept car was unveiled simultaneously to an audience in Los Angeles and London through VR using HTC Vive headsets and Dell Precision PCs.

With celebrities including Michelle Rodriguez (Fast and Furious), Miranda Kerr and James Corden (Carpool Karaoke) in attendance, the vehicle's designers, Ian Callum and Ian Hoban, introduced the next-gen electric vehicle.

In addition to the virtual presences of the designers and animations showing how the vehicle handles, VR viewers were also transported to Venice Beach with a view from inside and outside the vehicle. At one point in the VR presentation, viewers watched as pieces of the car fell from outer space and assembled around them on Earth.

"Our virtual reality reveal today has pushed technology boundaries," said Callum. "We only have one concept car and it is in LA for the reveal. For the first time, VR has allowed us share it across the globe in the most immersive way possible."

Although the car isn't set to make its road debut until 2018, the multi-city immersive teaser experience was not only an effective preview but could also set the stage for simultaneous, multi-city product launches for similar products in the coming years.
