The Transnusa plane was being towed to a hangar when it crossed the path of the Batik Air plane, which had been cleared for takeoff. Flight crew aborted takeoff, but could not stop the aircraft from colliding with the Transnusa aircraft.

The left wing of the Batik Air plane clipped the tail of the towed plane and erupted in a fire, which firefighters were able to put out within a few minutes.

Batik Air reported that 49 passengers and seven crew members had been onboard the plane. No injuries were reported.

Although no injuries were reported, there was considerable damage to the planes. Both aircraft were less than two years old, according to FlightRadar24.

The airport will remain closed until further notice.

Batik Air and Transnusa did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
