The Good Place star Jameela Jamil is very vocal on social media about body image issues and her own struggles with an eating disorder.

Her latest tweets about why photoshop and airbrushing in the media should be illegal have gone massively viral.

Jamil used magazine covers featuring actors over the age of 50 to illustrate her point about how airbrushing is "weaponised" against women.

"This is how we portray men in their 50s on magazine covers and women in their 50s. Look at the difference," Jamil wrote along side the photos of Nicole Kidman, Josh Brolin, George Clooney, and Sandra Bullock.

The covers featuring Brolin, Kidman, and Bullock are from 2018 and show the actors in their 50s. Clooney's Time cover is from 2008, when he was in his late 40s.

The tweet has since garnered 32,000 likes and nearly 7,000 retweets.

"Men can celebrate the inevitable, we must fear it," Jamil wrote in the tweet, and went on to elaborate on the ageism, sexism, and ablism inherent in the practise of airbrushing.

Jamil, who does not want any photos of herself to be airbrushed, explained that not only is the practise harmful for the audience, it is harmful for her own self image.

Leading up to the tweets, Jamil explained to the BBC about why she thinks photoshop is so problematic it should be a crime.

"It is anti-feminist. It is ageist. It is fat-phobic. It looks weird. It looks wrong. It's robbing you of your time, money, comfort, integrity and self worth," she said.
