It has been one long summer for Jane the Virgin fans.

The second season finale last spring ended on the honeymoon from hell, with Michael getting shot in the hallway of a hotel right after he married Jane and right before they were -- finally -- going to have sex.

Is he alive? Is he dead? It's anyone's guess until the third season of the dramedy begins Monday night, but for now, Mashable can exclusively debut a scene from the premiere, where Jane finds Michael moments after he's been shot. While it's not exactly looking good for Jane's love, fans will be delighted to hear the narrator note that the last breath hasn't left his body quite yet.

Cut to one very tense scene in a hospital waiting room. Check it out below.

Jane the Virgin returns for its third season Monday at 9 pm ET on The CW.
