Janelle Monae joins Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer in astronaut drama 'Hidden Figures'
Janelle Monae just landed a new acting gig.
The singer is joining Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and Taraji P. Henson in the drama Hidden Figures, The Wrap reports.
The movie, based on the upcoming book Hidden Figures: The Story of the African American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly, will focus on three black women who worked on NASA's Friendship 7 mission in 1962. That mission made John Glenn the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth.

Monae will play Mary Jackson, Henson will play Katherine Johnson and Spencer will play Dorothy Vaughn, according to The Wrap.
Shetterly's book will be released this September. The film does not yet have a set release date.
