VR porn is taking the world by storm. Well, at least Japan, which seems to be embracing the new form of intercourse simulation.

Japan's first VR porn festival -- Adult VR Fest, held in Tokyo's Akihabara district -- reportedly drew such a large opening crowd, its organizers had to close the event down.

According to one Japanese blogger who attended, hundreds of people who showed up to experience VR porn were turned away, with only about 20 "lucky guys" let into the event to get their freak on with some VR headsets and sex toy contraptions designed to simulate real intercourse.

"There were so many that it was almost impossible to keep the situation under control," wrote Eizo Wu (translated by VR Talk). "While waiting for my friends, I couldn’t help but think that if they couldn’t control the mass of people, a riot or something similar could happen."

Those who managed to get in, like Wu, were treated to some very funky VR sex experiences.

Along with wearing a VR headset to look at porn, attendees also got to try out various sex toy contraptions, some of which are designed to simulate the sensation of grinding and groping of breasts.

Other VR porn accessories included some kind of arm and hand-shaped device that presumably, uh, helps with masturbation.

Japan's first VR porn festival may have needed a larger venue and better planning, but rest assured this won't be the end of it. Expect to see more of these kinds of festivals pop up in the future as curious minds flock to see what the big deal is with VR porn.

As someone who has tried VR porn myself -- and let the entire world see me experience it (thanks Jimmy Fallon) -- I can tell you it's certainly... strange and scarily realistic.

It's still very early days for modern VR since headsets like the Samsung Gear VR only launched last year and Facebook's Oculus Rift and HTC's Vive have only been out for a few months.

But with the top 10 VR porn sites growing 202% between January and November of last year, according to digital insights firm SimilarWeb, and the VR industry projected to become a $1 billion industry by 2020, according to investment bank and asset management firm Piper Jaffray, interest in VR porn and these festivals will only increase.

BONUS: VR porn is here, and it's scarily realistic
