No, JAY-Z did not burn the Kardashians on his new album

Unfortunately, people often forget a very important adage when it comes to consuming things online: don't believe everything you read (unless, obviously, it's backed up by credible sources).

It's a rule that a lot of people forgot about in the wee hours of Friday morning. JAY-Z's album 4:44 became a Tidal and Sprint exclusive at midnight, and like many major releases, folks gathered on social media for a giant listening party.

Many people tweeted out their favorite lines, dissected samples, and shared memes—but one line kept cropping up on Twitter timelines that upon close listen, doesn't actually appear on 4:44 at all.

"And I never was a fan, my wife a queen not a Kardashian," @Voxmaus wrote on Twitter when the album dropped. "Hov is spazzing."

@Voxmaus seems to have been the first to tweet the faux-lyric, and an hour later tweeted his reaction to people "running with it."

Only problem is, that line doesn't actually exist and many people didn't bother to double check it, opting to share their impressions of the fake lyric and its shot at Jay's former bestie, Kanye West. The two, who have a long history of working together, have reportedly been at odds in recent years.

We gotta admit, we're howling at these reactions of folks claiming to hear the line, too.

Oh the lengths people will go when they don't have a Tidal subscription. Those who did have a chance to hear the album tried to put a stop to the lies.
