The spokeswoman for President Trump's attorney general Jeff Sessions has reportedly used her personal Gmail account for a statement to the media.

The statement was in response to a Washington Post report that Sessions met the Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the U.S. presidential campaign, despite telling his confirmation hearing he had "no communications with the Russians."

Sarah Isgur Flores, who is director of public affairs at the Department of Justice, confirmed to the media that the meetings took place but denied any connection to the election campaign.

“I never met with any Russian officials to discuss issues of the campaign,” Sessions’ statement said. “I have no idea what this allegation is about. It is false.”

However, as spotted by Politico Washington correspondent Edward-Isaac Dovere, Flores sent the statement from a Gmail account:

Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential candidate, came under fire from the Republicans for using a Gmail account during her tenure as secretary of state.
