You either loved or hated Darren Aronofsky's mother! -- and according to star Jennifer Lawrence, "there is no middle ground."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lawrence discussed her experience making the grueling film and how she would never do a project like this again.

"We knew that it was divided," Lawrence said of audience responses to the film. "That’s what so exciting — everybody is going to feel something. It’s going to create a conversation. It’s going to create a controversy. Nobody is going to leave not getting something from it."

Lawrence and Aronofsky worked closely on creating the feel of the movie, layering it with metaphors but also not giving too much away (Lawrence herself believes in explaining the films many themes and allegories to make it more digestible).

When asked if she would do another movie like this, Lawrence responded with an emphatic no.

"I don’t regret it," she added. "I’m happy I did it. If I had to do it again? If there was a mother! sequel? No. I wouldn’t be able to do it again. I did it once and I gave it my all."

And of course there was that one scene -- yes, that one -- that Lawrence prepared for by listening to Lemonade and didn't want to go for multiple takes.

"I was in the medical unit with oxygen up my nose and [Darren]’s like, 'It was out of focus, we gotta do it again.' I was like, you are making me go to a place that you have never been. I just wanted to get out and finish it. It’s scary not being able to control yourself."

mother! is now in theaters.
