Jessica Chastain is here to prove to you that Time's Up is more than just a pin and a website. When her Academy Award-winning costar Octavia Spencer wanted to discuss the gender wage gap in Hollywood and how severely it affects women of color, Chastain was shocked and spurred to action.

"She said, 'You and I are gonna be tied together,'" Spencer said at a Sundance Panel. "'We’re gonna be favored nations, and we’re gonna make the same thing, you are going to make that amount.’ Fast-forward to last week, we’re making five times what we asked for.”

Spencer shared her story about 19 minutes into the this panel:

Chastain and Spencer teamed up for a comedy film over a year ago, and Chastain made pay equity a priority for both of them.

"I said, ‘But here’s the thing, women of color on that spectrum, we make far less than white women. So, if we’re gonna have that conversation about pay equity, we gotta bring the women of color to the table,’" Spencer recalled. "And I told her my story, and we talked numbers, and she was quiet, and she said she had no idea that that’s what it was like for women of color.”

Chastain took the story to heart. Pay equality and equity are top priorities for Time's Up, so she set out to fix the disparity.

“I love that woman, because she’s walking the walk and she’s actually talking the talk," an emotional Spencer said at Sundance. "She said, ‘Octavia, we’re gonna get you paid on this film.'"
