He's trading newspapers for a badge, but at least we know he can grow some kickass whiskers.

J.K. Simmons -- a.k.a. Spider-Man's most perfect J. Jonah Jameson -- has joined the cast of the Justice League as another notable, mustachioed comic book character: James Gordon, police commissioner of Gotham City.

Simmons joins a cast that's already solidified around the titular super-team: Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ezra Miller (The Flash) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg).

The plot of Justice League is shrouded in mystery for the time being, though we can expect more to become clear as the DC Comics cinematic universe starts to take shape around Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. We know the story involves a threat large enough to bring this super-team together, and we know it spans two movies.

Justice League: Part One is expected to start shooting in April, with the release set for Nov. 17, 2017. Part Two is currently scheduled for June 14, 2019.

Given that Affleck's Batman -- and the Gotham City he hails from -- makes its debut in Batman v Superman on Mar. 25, it's not unreasonable to rule out a Simmons appearance in the new movie. The same goes for Suicide Squad (Aug. 5), which already features noted Gotham villains Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie).

It's unclear how large Simmons' role will be in Justice League, though joining DC's fledgling cinematic universe means he's likely locked in for more than just the one movie.
