Germany coach Joachim Löw apologizes for public 'scratch-and-sniff' at Euro 2016

Joachim Löw is sorry, everyone. 

Germany's coach apologized Wednesday after a clip of him appearing to scratch his private parts then sniff his fingers during his team's opening Euro 2016 match became an online sensation. 

What a time to be alive. 

In the clip that has been viewed millions of times since Germany's opening 2-0 win over Ukraine on Sunday, Löw appears to reach down the front of his pants then smell his fingers. Then he appears to reach down the back of his pants and do the same. 

It's rather gnarly, but here you go. 

“I saw the pictures as well and obviously sometimes you do things subconsciously. It happened and I am sorry,” Löw said Wednesday, per The Guardian. “It was adrenaline and concentration. I will try to behave differently in the future.”

Not sure how adrenaline connects to butt and ball-scratching, but let's move on. 

Germany won the 2014 World Cup under Löw's guidance and is a favorite to take the Euro 2016 tournament in France this summer. Star forward Lukas Podolski had his manager's back after the scratch-and-sniff fuss. 

“It’s not an issue," Podolski said. "About 80 percent of you here have at some point scratched your balls. Therefore, everything is good.”

Plus, it's not like this is a new thing from Löw. At the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he was caught on camera picking his nose then appearing to eat the result. 

And they call soccer the beautiful game.
