The first poster for the Joker movie was revealed by director Todd Phillips Monday, giving us another creepy look at Joaquin Phoenix in Joker makeup.

The new poster, posted on Instagram, is the first new look we've had at the standalone Joker project since September when Phillips posted a short video of Phoenix with and without the iconic clown makeup.

The Joker poster is stark, the majority of it consisting of dark empty space, Phoenix staring upward with a few unmistakable splashes of blood marring his face paint. That little glint in his eye is a nice touch that adds to his madness.

According to a report from Variety, the Joker movie will be set in the '80s and will be an "exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale," Phillips said.

So far there's been no mention of Batman.

Joker will arrive in theaters Oct. 4 with an official teaser of the movie dropping online Tuesday.
