Jodie Foster on the advancement of women in Hollywood, but it's not all good news
Sexism is an issue that still cuts through the film industry.
It's something that is slowly changing, but not in all areas of Hollywood according to actor turned director, Jodie Foster.
Foster is the director of Money Monster, and is currently in Australia to promote her film. Aside from talking about her new crime drama, Foster spoke out about the state of affairs when it comes to women in film.

"I have been a woman in the industry for a long time and I can see that there are enormous strides that have been made for women in the industry," Foster told Australian current affairs show 7:30 on Monday.
"When I was growing up, there were no women in the industry. There was the make-up artist and then occasionally the script supervisor and that was about it. And that's really changed and it's changed things so much for the better."
"But, women directors is the one area that's changed very little."
Yet, according to Foster, there is one area which hasn't seen much change in the decades gone by: Female directors.
"But, women directors is the one area that's changed very little. There's a lot of discussion about it, so I think that that bodes well," she told the TV program.
"I don't know why there wasn't more discussion about it over the course of the last 50 years, but there is now, so maybe that bodes well for things."
Foster also spoke out about franchises being likely the norm in 10 years time, as they're a surefire bet that will prove financially viable for movie studios.
"I think that's where we're headed and it's a gamble that the studios have made that they feel is the best financial bet for them -- to bankroll films that are perhaps much more expensive but that are mostly franchises and to make fewer of them," she said.
"And right now we're at the most risk averse moment in movie history, I think, so it'll be interesting to see if that bet works out for them."
Let's just hope those movie franchises are directed by women, somewhere down the line.
