Warning: This post contains spoilers that prove fan theories can sometimes turn out true. It's a weird world.

Where were you when a fan theory actually came true?

R+L=J is something most Game of Thrones fans have heard about for years, but on Season 6's very bloody and eventful finale, the show finally confirmed the truth about Jon Snow's lineage.

Well, basically.

If your GoT math is a little dusty, the R+L=J theory, lovingly explained here, basically posits that Jon Snow was not a bastard Ned Stark brought home from Robert Baratheon's rebellion. In fact, the theory claims, Jon is the son of Ned Stark's sister Lyanna and her captor Rhaegar Targaryen, older brother to Daenerys. Clues in the books, hints on the show and wild conversations have led many fans to this conclusion.

In the finale, Bran Stark, through his three-eyed raven powers, observed Ned finding his sister in the terribly-named Tower of Joy and taking her new baby as she slowly expires.

So, that's it right? We can all go home and pat ourselves on the back for being so smart right?

Eh, not exactly.

While now we do know that Jon is not a bastard and indeed does have Stark blood flowing through his know-nothing veins, Lyanna never explicitly tells who the father is. The show creators have her whisper it into Ned's ear because they love more rampant speculation.

But that didn't stop a self-congratulatory internet from loving itself.

Well, done, internet. We're proud of you.
