As far as news corrections go, this one from CSN Chicago on Thursday is an all-time classic.

Correction: While no national media had this story, a Reddit user named "wetbutt23" had it last night. CSNChicago.com apologizes to wetbutt23 for the error.

Welcome, yet again, to our brave new media world. So how did we get here?

CSN Chicago issued the above correction after reporting the White Sox traded starting pitcher Jose Quintana across town to the Cubs for four minor league prospects. As the local sports news site scrupulously admitted, they were first to the story among major media outlets — but news of the trade had actually broken Wednesday night on Reddit.

That's right. Step aside national baseball reporters. There are a couple new hotshots in the journalism game. Make room for "wetbutt23" and "KatyPerrysBootyHole."

As tracked down by the sports blog Deadspin, here's what KatyPerrysBootyHole had to report on the trade Wednesday night:

Hey guys, take this with a grain of salt, but I heard from a friend who’s brothers friend works for the cubs (sounds like bullshit I know), that Q is going to the cubs in exchange for 4 players. Has anyone heard anything similar?

To which wetbutt23 added:

I was just told that the trade was agreed to this morning. And the players were doing physicals and what not. Could have been before game, I am not 100% on the timeline of the physicals

Lo and behold, the trade actually went down as described the following day.

This isn't the first time a Reddit user with a profane name has made for some awkward news copy of late, either. You may recall the recent political controversy surrounding "HanAssholeSolo," for example.

Anyway, good on CSN Chicago for issuing that correction giving wetbutt23 his or her due. But KatyPerrysBootyHole really deserves some credit here, too.
