Justin Bieber does a mean impression of Jonah from 'Summer Heights High'

"Puck you miss!"

Like many celebrities who've passed through Australia, Justin Bieber has been hounded by paparazzi.

Bieber tried to get away from it all by staying on the private Makepeace Island, located in Queensland. But it wasn't far enough.

Luckily, the ennui-filled pop star knows how to make light of a crappy situation -- just do impressions of well-loved Australian TV characters.

One cameraman captured the Canadian singer angrily reacting to him being filmed, yelling "F*ck off" and flipping the finger at cameras. "Welcome to the Sunshine Coast, hey?" the cameraman responded. "F*ck you," Bieber shot back.

But it turns out what Bieber was trying to say was "puck you." As in "puck you miss," a line famously uttered by Jonah Takalua of classic Australian TV series Summer Heights High, which was picked up by HBO. No, really.

Here's Bieber impersonating Takalua on Instagram, referencing the moment that made the nightly news. There's also a bit of "sorry, ranga" thrown in for good measure.

"SORRY BEN -- If you don't get the context it's from an Australian TV show called Summer Heights High," Bieber wrote in the post.

Sounds like someone may have been asked to apologise, and saw it as the perfect opportunity for some cheeky pop culture referencing.

International stars don't often pay attention the nation's cultural products, but it seems like Bieber could have a special affinity for Jonah -- a frustrated, trouble-making but ultimately sweet and misunderstood graffiti artist.

Sounds kind of familiar.
