Justin Trudeau invited Ivanka Trump to a play about welcoming foreigners and the irony isn't lost

Oh, the irony.

Just hours after a federal court blocked President Donald Trump's revised travel ban, his daughter Ivanka attended a Broadway musical about welcoming foreigners under invitation from heart-throb Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Ivanka, who arrived in the same motorcade as Trudeau and his wife Sophie, sat next to Justin and UN ambassador Nikki Haley to watch the play, Come From Away, about a small town in Canada which helped travellers in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

More than 100 ambassadors from around the world were reportedly also in attendance.

The remote East Coast town of Gander, Newfoundland, saw its population double in size after local residents sheltered 6,579 passengers and crew from 38 planes diverted after the tragedy.

"There is no relationship quite like the friendship between Canada and the United States,” Trudeau said in his remarks, according to a video. “The deep ties ... of business, of friends, of culture, of people traveling back and forth, families of all these connections. This story, this amazing show is very much about that. And it’s about friendship as well.”

Trudeau even wept during the show "Oh my god, I lost the fight the whole way through….Two minutes (in), I started to cry," he said.

After the show, he was asked about whether he spoke with Ivanka. He replied to CBC, "Oh she enjoyed it. As did everyone in the theatre."

It's the second time in the space of about a month that Trudeau and Ivanka met. Last time, she became a "thirsty AF meme."
