In the wake of Donald Trump's election, Katy Perry urged her fans to "turn words into action" by donating to Planned Parenthood.

Perry, who was a vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton throughout the election cycle, posted a photo to Instagram of her own $10,000 donation alongside a poignant open letter.

The singer credited Planned Parenthood with teaching her about sexual health when she had no other resources.

"Planned Parenthood educated me on my body and my reproductive health, so that I could focus on my dreams and using my voice until I knew the timing was right for me to make a plan to have a family," she wrote.

Perry also extolled the organization as a source of medical support for low-income families unable to afford health insurance.

"I know what it's like to need help," she wrote.

President-elect Donald Trump has promised to strip Planned Parenthood of its federal funding. And Vice president-elect Mike Pence spent his term as Indiana governor leading the GOP's crusade against the organization.

Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood has pledged to keep its doors open.
