If Katy Perry would like to be excluded from the "Bad Blood" narrative, it's far too late for that. In her new NME cover story, she explained why she chose to respond in the first place.

“I mean, I’m not Buddha — things irritate me. I wish that I could turn the other cheek every single time, but I’m also not a pushover, you know?" said Perry. "Especially when someone tries to assassinate my character with little girls. That’s so messed up!”

Perry's response sounds a bit like Swift's defense following Kim Kardashian's Snapchats revealing her phone call with Kanye West over "Famous." It makes sense that once, in simpler times, the songbirds had mad love.

"Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination," wrote Swift at the time. "I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be apart of, since 2009."

Perry discussed the origins of the feud explicitly for the first time while filming a Carpool Karaoke segment with James Corden after a prolonged subtweet campaign.

“Well, James Corden makes me and the whole world feel very safe,” Perry explained. “No one has asked me about my side of the story, and there are three sides of every story: one, two, and the truth.”

We are anxiously awaiting The Truth's next single.
