NBC's smooth-talking Keith Morrison is the new voice of Waze

Hello lost drivers of the world. We have some good news.

Please welcome your new go-to direction giver, longtime correspondent of NBC's Dateline Keith Morrison.

Yes, it's true. Morrison, who admittedly has some pretty smooth vocals 😏 , will be the latest celebrity voice narrating the popular traffic app, Waze.

After Morrison's loyal social media followers continually suggested he voice the app, NBC suggested the cameo.

In an interview with USA Today's "Talking Tech," Morrison admitted upon learning of the potential opportunity, he thought, "You’re out of your mind. They can’t do that." But alas, "It turns out they can," he said, "And it was kind of fun to do it."

The broadcaster explained that after Waze sent him a lengthy list of commands to record, he did what he does to record a large chunk of his Dateline voiceovers: go into his bedroom closet.

Using his iPhone paired with a Beyerdynamic microphone and an adapter, Morrison set forth to record his audio book-worthy voice speaking helpful driving phrases like "red light camera just above you," "you’ve reached your destination," "policeman ahead" and even a warning to steer clear of "those pesky potholes."

"I do it in the closet because there’s lots of clothes in there, and no echo," he explained. "It’s the perfect recording studio."

Morrison's voice is only available on Waze until April 2, so be sure to visit the Tools section of the app and enable it by following the instructions below.

Morrison joins other notable celebrities who have guest-voiced the app in the past, such as Stephen Colbert, Arnold Schwarzenegger, C-3P0 from Star Wars and even Tyler Perry as his beloved character, Madea.
