Kindergarteners learn to sign lyrics to 'Happy Birthday' for their school custodian, who is deaf

A group of Tennessee kindergarteners pulled off a beyond sweet gesture when they learned to sign the lyrics to "Happy Birthday" for the school custodian, Mr. James, who is deaf.

Per local news affiliate Fox17, to celebrate the custodian's sixtieth birthday on Tuesday, two kindergarten teachers and the school nurse led their students in signed song, much to Mr. James' surprise.

Hickerson Elementary uploaded video of the heartwarming gesture to Twitter. Let me just warn you: you will be emotionally destroyed by this.

Fox17 reports that Mr. James has worked at the school for 15 years now. "Mr. James teaches the kids sign language every now and then, teaches them good manners and how to treat other people," Hickerson's Principal Jimmy Anderson told the local news affiliate.

Anderson also tweeted a thank you to the students and teachers involved in this surprise.
