Kirsten Dunst reportedly to direct Dakota Fanning in 'The Bell Jar'

She'll make her feature film debut with an adaptation of Sylvia Plath's 1963 novel.

Kirsten Dunst is set to make her feature film debut in a big way: Adapting Sylvia Path's iconic 1963 novel, The Bell Jar.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Dunst has signed on to direct, with Dakota Fanning set to star.

The Bell Jar, Plath's only novel, is the semi-autobiographical story of Esther Greenwood and her summer in New York City and descent into an entrapping depression. It was released shortly before her death by suicide in 1963.

Priority Pictures optioned the rights from Studio Canal, according to Deadline, and production is expected to start in early 2017.

Dunst last appeared in Fargo, a role that earned her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
