A 12-ton KitKat heist is breaking the internet

A chocolate heist is captivating the internet this week after a transport truck carrying 12 tons of KitKat products was reportedly stolen.

The KitKat bandits intercepted the delivery vehicle mid-route, carrying 413,793 units of a "new" KitKat product from Central Italy to Poland, CBS reports.

Parent company Nestlé told CBS News that the truck is still unaccounted for, and warned that the loss could "threaten" supply chains across Europe. In a follow-up statement on KitKat brand social media accounts, however, it was clarified that there is no threat to supply or public safety.

The internet, of course, is having a field day.

And in true form other brands got in the mix, as well, including potential Danny Ocean level mastermind Domino's.

"We've always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat, but it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tons of our chocolate," a Nestle spokesperson told AFP.

Looking at my calendar, I can't help but think there may be Soderbergh-esque third act reveal in this viral tale. Surely, Nestle hasn't roped us into a week-long April Fools' Day joke, all with the plan of releasing a new flavor of KitKat after continued global boycotts of Nestlé products?
