If you are alive in the world today, you have undoubtably heard about last night's incredible Oscars mix-up, where Moonlight walked away with an unexpected (no, seriously unexpected) Best Picture award.

When Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway incorrectly announced La La Land as the award's winner, producer Jordan Horowitz was the first of his colleagues to deliver an acceptance speech onstage. He was also the first to realize something was very wrong.

“I’m holding the envelope and the award, and I had just given my speech, and there are people on the stage with headsets, and I thought, ‘That doesn’t seem right,’” Horowitz told The New York Times.

“They asked to see my envelope, which I haven’t opened. Clearly something was wrong. They open my envelope, and it says ‘Emma Stone, La La Land.’ So clearly something is not right," he continued.

"The guys in headsets were going around with urgency looking for the other envelope — it just kind of appeared,” he said. “One of the guys opens it, and it says ‘Moonlight,’ and I took it onstage and went to the microphone and said what I said.”

"There's a mistake. 'Moonlight,' you guys won best picture," he said in a literally shocking turn of events.

La La Land's cast uncomfortably shifted around the stage, unsure of what to do next. Host Jimmy Kimmel, in attempt to make sense of anything happening, suggested that perhaps both casts get to receive Oscar statues this year.

"I'm gonna be really proud to hand this to my friends from Moonlight," Horowitz graciously said, and the rightful film's cast and crew took the stage to accept their award.

After their acceptance, Moonlight's director Barry Jenkins told Entertainment Tonight that he, “could see it in Jordan’s face, that he was speaking the truth,” referring to Horowitz's admission that they won.

“I wanted to feel compassion for him,” Jenkins explained, “I’m pretty sure the first thing I do when I get up onstage is give him a hug because it couldn’t have been easy. But these things happen, you know. They happen.”

Later that evening, Jenkins sent out a tweet in support of Horowitz's bravery.

As promised, Horowitz calmly handed his Oscar over to the Moonlight cast, later saying he was "sad" but also appreciated that La La Land won six Oscars that night.

“It was a surreal kind of out-of-body experience,” he told the New York Times while colleagues gathered around to applaud Horowitz on his gracious handling. "We've been on the circuit with [the Moonlight filmmakers] for six months," he continued, "If that kind of thing has to happen, I'm glad to give it to them."

Adele Romanski, one of the Moonlight producers, then approached the defeated producer to give him a hug. "I got to give a speech and then give you an award," Horowitz said.

A beautiful handling an extremely awkward situation. Jordan Horowitz is a class act.
