Cutting edge technology, meet literal cutting edge.

Umino Seaweed has collaborated with international ad agency I & S BBDO to create Design Nori, a collection of intricately designed laser-cut seaweed to create the most beautiful sushi you'll ever eat.

Crafted in five delicate designs, each sheet of dried nori features a unique motif from Japanese history or symbology. The designs are mizutama (water drops), sakura (cherry blossoms), kikkou (turtle shell), kumikkou (tortoise shell), and asanoha (hemp).

In order to keep the dried seaweed from crumbling during the creation, Umino used a specific, thicker variety of the vegetation from the Sanriku region of Miyagi, Japan.

While this collection was only limited edition in 2011, if you’d like this type of decorative seaweed for your next roll, Make: put together a DIY to make ornate sushi at home.
