April Fools' Day is nearly upon us.

Yes that means the season of (extra) fake news headlines, elaborate Google pranks, and #brandfails is upon us. Now's a time of year that you need to keep your head on a swivel, making sure you do not fall victim to all-too-common April Fools' Day prank.

And look, we all love a good prank, but none of us wants to take the time to plan one out. That's probably how you found yourself here. If you're looking for a good last-minute prank that doesn't take all too much time to plan out, here are a few good ones to try out.

1. The phone name switch prank

This is an extremely easy one. Just ask to borrow a friend's phone, then change your name to something like "Mom" or "Dad." Send a slew of particularly odd texts and roll in the lols.

2. Fill a hollow chocolate bunny up with mustard, because Easter

This is a good one borrowed from my colleague Peter Allen Clark, who politely compiled a list of festive-themed pranks, since April Fools' Day falls on Easter. It's pretty easy. Take a hollow chocolate bunny, make a small hole under the foil and fill it with mustard. This one's particularly sinister, so save it for your nemesis.

This is a classic, but a great one. Go into your friend's phone settings and hit the General tab. From there go to Keyboard, then Text Replacement and enter in a word you want to replace. The best and most effective way to execute this prank is by replacing a commonly used, unexciting word with something incredibly random.

3. The scare prank

If you're feeling a particularly sinister, search "Scare Prank" in the App Store. There are a number of of ones there that will lull your friends into a false sense of security by boring them with a mundane game, all just before scaring the life out of them by popping up an image on the screen. Many record their reactions too.

4. Hijack their mouse

You'll need access to a Bluetooth mouse for this one. Just connect to a friend's computer with it when they're not paying attention and hijack their cursor when they're least expecting it. They'll have no idea what's going on.

5. Put little photos of Nick Cage on everything

If you're feeling particularly zany and your friend is a huge fan of National Treasure or Con Air, or if your friend is just strange AF, take tiny, tiny, tiny photos of Nicolas Cage and put them on everything in your friend's apartment. Get creative. I'm talking about putting them in the bottom of mugs, in the back of bookcases, in sock drawers, tapped to the edge of a ceiling fan. Who knows, they may not find them until years later when they move out.
