Finally, you don't have to pay extra for your own passwords.

LastPass, the password manager, is now free to access on mobile and multiple devices.

Previously, the security service that generates and stores complex passwords was free on desktop but required a $12 annual fee for mobile access.

LastPass Premium is still the program's paid tier, but it now includes a more limited selection of features: Priority customer support, password sharing and additional two-factor authentication options.

The service also offers a version targeted toward businesses at $24 a year.

To start using LastPass on mobile, users only need to download the app and log in the same way they would through the computer's browser extension. Users can also log in on additional desktop devices.

LastPass's free syncing gives it a big boost over its password manager competitors.

Password security has always been important, but in this election season it's become an even bigger issue with high-profile hacks of the Democratic National Committee and other organizations.

LastPass founder Joe Siegrist announced the update in a blog post Wednesday morning.

"So far in 2016, there were more than 1 billion passwords publicly leaked due to poor password practices. We want to empower our users to take back control of their online security, and no longer feel powerless against the next wave of breaches," Siegrist wrote. "The more convenient we make password management the better we will be able to solve this problem."
